Biolea participates in the release of rehabilitated injured birds of prey, and promotes conservation and biodiversity on Crete. The Region of Crete Forestry Department and the University of Crete, through implementation of the European Commission DG Environment program, promotes the conservation of the island's biodiversity.

Our area, the west of Crete, is host to one of four remaining breeding pairs of Bearded Vulture (Gypaetus Barbatus) in the Balkans. In addition, a community of Griffon Vultures (Gyps fulvus), pairs of Golden eagles (Aguila chrysaetos), Bonelli's Eagle (Hieraetus fasciatus), Peregrine falcons (Falco peregrinus), the Lanner (Falco biarmicus) and another 124 species of birds found here.

At Biolea we believe that promoting environmentally-friendly organic agricultural practices, ecotourism and information dissemination on the importance of the local wildlife contributes to theirprotection and conservation.
